adding ram to a vaio picturebook?
« on: April 13, 2004, 03:00:44 AM »
ive got a sony vaio picturebook c1vp, basically a dressed up c1vn

i am definantly going to be upgrading ram asap and was wondering how in depth this process was in a small laptop like this?

should i be worried about harming anything, or should i just let a pro do it at a computer place?

i dont have your model vaio, but if you flip mine upsidedown, there are screws to remove right where the ram is on the board. its not hard to replace at all. just make sure its the right kind. hope this helps im smashed.

another question:

is there space to "add" ram, or do i have to replace the 112 stick with something bigger? becuase i can only find 128mb sticks for my model picturebook, thats not much of an addition if i have to replace the 112 with it

4allmemory.com

it will look up your memory capabilities just from your model number

EDIT: http://4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&manufacturer_id=77&model_id=24151

all that will fit in your lappy is an extra stick of 64

Maximum memory: 192 MB
Standard memory: 128 MB (non-removable)
Slots: 1 socket

so all i have to do is buy a 64mb stick

now....who has experience opening up the picturebook asnd can give me some decent instructions so i dont fuck up anything

FWIW, there is 2 different outfits in japan that offer a 256 mb upgrade (384 total, after the processor uses it's allocation) chips.  the picturebooks take a special kind (size) of memory, and they are the only ones that offer anything above 128mb.  they used to be on ebay all the time (that's where i got mine)  look on some of the pictutrebook forums for more info....

more likely a portion reserved as video RAM... quite common nowadays on lower end motherboards
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."

it seems that the 256mb upgrade is no longer being produced. it is not on ebay and a few people on those sites are also looking to buy the upgrades...

i registered and posted in all of them, so hopefully i can get lucky. big +T for the help!

Don't but the Kingmax Picturebook RAM, mine crapped out within a year or so in my C1VN.

Peace,
Ben
