I picked up a Kata R-101 a few weeks ago, on sale at Adorama for $100 shipped (thanks to MattD for the recommendation!). Had to add it to my cart to see the price. Just checked and it's still on sale. Holds my K10D with attached 70-200 f2.8 with plenty of space for additional lenses and accessories. Going off memory right now as I'm not at home, but I think I have in the bag my K10D attached to the 70-200 f2.8, and then a 35, 50, 17-70, 28-105, 1.5 TC, Rocket bulb blower & lens pen, some lens filters, microfibre towel, and maybe a few other bits. It has a sleeve for a laptop, but I don't use it.
What I like about it:
- Very solid construction
- Excellent protection, plenty of padding
- Extremely comfortable
- Holds enough stuff without being too bulky
- Attaches to the W-92 or W-94 waist pack if I want to expand my gear significantly
- Has D-rings on the front so I may hang the camera as if on a neck strap while walking around with the pack on
- Has available an optional tripod / monopod carrier with straps
- Easy access to body + attached lens without having to open the whole pack
Haven't found anything about it I don't like, yet. Well, maybe from a spec perspective its weight, but loaded up and wearing the pack, I simply don't notice the extra weight because it's so comfortable. I looked at a lot of small backpacks, and IMO none others compare based on quality and feature set. Some competitors were too small, most too big, or lacked features, or were actually sling bags that I know I didn't want (had to have a full two-shoulder backpack). YMMV.
