Hahaha... yeah, the color temp difference is weird... the compact fluorescent in the background is a lot different than the flash lit foreground.

Since ChitownTaper isn't getting back to me:

First $300 gets the lens, cap, hood, and a UV filter, all in original boxes... I pick up the shipping.  It goes to ebay in a few weeks if there are no bites here.

How is that EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens??? I'm considering this for my Rebel XT, as a main walkaround. I KNOW L glass is better, but I'm looking for a decent starter lens.

the 24-70 is an incredible lens.  and it is an "L" lens.  it's a little long on the short end as your only lens however if you want to do real landscapes and cityscapes.  the 24mm on a 1.6x crop camera like the dreb means the shortest effective focal length is about 38mm which is not very wide.  you may also consider the 17-40 f4L as well.  it just depends on what you shoot.  the 24-70 is my main lens on the 20d and i haven't found a comparable lens as far as deep colors, contrast and sharpness go.  on the downside, it's pricey and it's pretty damn big so it's not very discreet at all.

I'm surprised you'd rate it over your 135/2 in those categories. Did you mean in that focal range?

sorry, i meant to say of the zooms that i have had.  the 135/2 outperforms pretty much every lens i have owned, but i consider the primes and zooms separately.

ditto

It's a big heavy lens that will feel odd on the XT, unless you have the grip--which is a highly recommended accessories for the XT.  If you have the grip the 24-70L will balanced better.

i disagree.  it's neither that big nor that heavy, plus you should be holding your camera by your lens anyways if it is big enough- its a more stable shot.

OK Jonny it's not as heavy  as a 300 or 400 2.8.

I've owned both ( and most of the Canon L lenses ) and stand by my opinion.  Try holding your XT with a demo of the 24-70L.  You can come to your own conclusions.  Larger hands require the XT grip and the grip helps to stabilize the lens.  Maybe Jonny has little hands, but great technique :)
