usually no metal detectors, just a patdown.

you can always throw your stuff over/under the fence next to the entrance line and pick it up on the other side

For Idaho and Washington Priest/Ozzfest shows my friend girlfriend is going to stash my portadat in her bra.  My mics and stuff can fit easily in my shoe/pants

no, i did that in 2002, not last year. if i wanted to get in 13 mds, giant squid omnis, and an mz-r700 in my pants today i could do it no problem.
and it wasn't that great of an idea, schwill, if you'll recall. i had to have erin (and you, andy, and izzy too) distract a security guard so i could get back to the fence...

and recording gear is always fond of the impact of an 8' fall! ;)

it was 13 MDs and they went UNDER the fence. ;) and the plastic boxes were all wrapped in duct tape, so it all looked like trash and blended well. then i covered the discs with leaves and had my bubbly friend talk it up with The Man... good times. ;D

I've been to a couple of Ozzfests. Pat downs are thorough. They check insides of hats, pat down to socks and even checked the small of my back for anything. I have yet to tape an Ozzfest show but I've got in a couple of shows now with a MD down pants so I might take more chances in the future at the heavier concerts.

I hate taping in day light outdoors. Be careful. Assume somebody is always watching, even other fans.

I was going to go to Ozzfest at Camden but decided to ebay the tix, which were really good seats.  I imagine they will use wands, thorough patdowns (like in all Metal shows around here), so i can't imagine getting my gear in without being caught..and no, i can't fit my preamp, dat and mics in my crotch.

 :(
SP-CMC-4s (C, H, SC terminated to mini xlr)>Tinybox>Sony M10/Tascam DR-2d
Countryman B3 (Omni, mini xlr)>Tinybox>Sony M10/Tascam DR-2d
Audix 1200 series cable from Chris Church, pair of Audix M1280 card capsules

Listening: Oppo 980HD>Yamaha RXV667>Rega R1's + Rega RS VOX + Rega R5S's

Does anyone know if Shoreline uses wands, or just a patdown?

There is a trick that works at Camden apparently, one person goes in and the other passes gear under the fence along the water. The one time I was there for Lollapalooza last year, we bought VIPs from a scalper and walked right in the VIP entrance with no bag check.

Is it normal to usually pass through a wand check? Metal wand dectors scare the crap out of me.

I don't feel comfortable with a M1 down my pants. One of my Sharp MD units is mostly plastic, probably more metal in the AA battery than in the whole unit.

I've heard the wand doesn't really detect the crotch area much unless they really put it up close. Any others have experience with metal wand detectors?

reminder to myself: next time in airport or court pass through gate with MD in pocket for testing.

LOL...the hell i can!  That MV100 is one cumbersome sob as are those bloody samson adapters.  I'll sit it out, i'm getting sick and tired of stealthing to be honest and am looking into taping in smaller venues around NYC.

War of words: there will not be wands at Ozzfest. Go, enjoy, make good tapes. I'll be there as well.

Thanks, that makes me feel better.

Here's hoping War Of Words and my young friend Armen are doing it up at Ozzfest right now. I hope Armen does not get my gear soaked during Sabbath!

You, missed ozzfest? What's the world coming to?

Excellent, I cannot wait to hear it. This definitely makes the Raleigh show tempting. Were you in the $100 or $65 seats. I'm not paying $100.
