Title: Just got my Firewire 410
Post by: John Kelly on November 15, 2003, 06:11:16 PM
And I must say, it seems pretty sweet.  It feels a lot more solid than the UA5, and I really like the build quality.  I've done some tests with my Octavas and it sounds pretty good.  I wont be able to test it in the field until Mraz on Thanksgiving weekend.  Wish I could find something sooner...I'm really itching to try it out. :)

I could try going out of the emi 2|6 and back into the 410, but I have no idea if that'll work or not.

I have a DVD player, but no 24 bit shows on DVD to play on it...

Edit - Actually, I could get my pc up and running and do 24 bit out of that...  I'll try and do it tomorrow and let you know how it works out. :)

sweet, I've been waiting for some people to get this unit.

have you tried running mics in and sending a s/pdif out while simultaneously sending a firewire signal to the comp?(for sending a patch signal)
how noisy is the pre-amp?
run multi-track yet?

thanks

Have I tried it, no.  But according to the manual it's supposed to work like that.  However, only one of the SPDIF outputs will work at a time, you can't run both optical and coax at the same time...

I haven't done enough testing to really judge this.

Nope. :)  I probably wont be for a while, either.  Maybe I'll get DP4 installed again and just test it out, I'll need to learn it if I'm going to start doing aud/sbd matrix recordings. :)

One thing I have noticed, though, is that if I disconnect it with the unit off I get a kernel panic in OS 10.3.1.  If the unit is on and I disconnect it, though, it seems to be fine.  I'm going to email M-Audio about this a little later.

Well I had to send my iBook back for repairs again, so I wont be able to test anything for at least three more days (I should get it back on Weds, Apple overnights all their repairs).

m-audio has had kernel panic issues forever.  they can't write an os x driver for shit, which is pathetic, since core audio makes it so much easier than before

they had to release updates to the quattro driver to stop kernel panics already...

I wonder if getting on their case about it will even do anything...

Wow...after reading their site I have learned that my iSight will no longer work.  At least not until m-audio writes a new driver.  That's pretty shitty...
