m148 battery length?
« on: November 19, 2004, 01:18:46 PM »
Glanced for this, didn't find it- what's the general time one gets out of a full charge on the 148?

I'd think this would be highly dependent upon the amount of current the mics use. I.E. a lot shorter if running earthworks, while perhaps a fair bit longer if running less "thirsty" mics such as gefells.

jonny you want to actually hear what that georgia box can do, put an ad1k, mme or modsbm1 behind it instead of that goddamn v3. ;)

2 shows no problem, though I recharged after every show. You could probably get 3-4 out of fresh batteries on a low draw mic.

it's amazing how low you can draw that thing, and still get 48v. not recommended behavior, but I got like 14 with the b&k's.

Ya know, I did several tests using the 148 in front of the MME and the V3 simutaneously (only way to do a comp) and....it seems the v3 restricts the sound and the MME does not... not saying the V3 is bad cause "it ain't", just prefer the mme.  If I hadn't heard the mme, I'd be tickled w/ the V3.
The mme sound stage just opens up, highs are crisper..bla, bla, bla... too bad it has a shitty footprint and screwdriver impaired....;-)
it would be the shits, if those 2 things fixed....that and better readout and tighter knob control.  Grace is world class for a reason ;-) by a taper for tapers....

jah

oh ya 14 is the right number...and take a long time to charge after that too...them there's some slow charging batts.
Taping, it's a team sport!

Does anyone know how many Doug has made of these?
A search on google for "m148 preamp" does not yield many pages.
Thought I read on here that he will still make them to order, is that true still?
I know this is off the topic, I did not want to start a new thread though.
Thanks.

I have no idea how many he's made... the first m118's were in use by Doug and his brothers in 1985 or so (a check of the db.etree could probably pin point the date better)

he does still make them, they just take awhile... I've heard 6-9mos.
