Windows 11
« on: October 21, 2021, 08:59:13 AM »

Has anyone here made the jump to Windows 11 yet?  I have a desktop and a laptop that were both purchased within the last year and I'm considering the "free" upgrade, if all of my current audio processing software will still function as intended.

I have a brand new laptop and did a clean install of 11.  I have not processed a full show yet but all my software works.  iZotope RX, Wavelab 6, TLH, CD Wave, Foobar.....

I may do a clean install on my main desktop in the next few days.

studying Windows 11 for work and feel the new dock is stoopid. I still haven't deployed it on any machines yet. I can't wait for all the end user complaints about where is the start menu, etc.  >:D

I moved it to the left so it's in the standard start spot.  I pin most used programs to taskbar and like 10 the search works great for finding and opening apps.  So my time in the "start menu" is very limited.

Got Windows 11 installed on my "unsupported" machine.

I first got Win 11 working as a Virtual Machine using Virtualbox. That required me to edit the Registry to complete which wasn't hard, but I prefer to avoid RegEdit if I can. I ran like crap in the VM. Pretty much unusable. So I bought a new 1TB SSD and installed Win 11 on that (keeping my old drive with Win 10 on it in case Win 11 didn't work well).

I found a guide that will allow you to install the ISO to a USB drive and make the installer not check for the TPM chip that is required. I used this guide with Rufus. Piece of cake. No RegEdit this way.

Only have Brave Browser installed so far. I will get the rest of my programs installed soon. I don't see why anything that worked on Windows 10 wouldn't work on Windows 11 as there isn't a huge change in the actual OS.

Liking it so far. I'm sure that, as with Windows 10, it will take a bit of time to find things again. I've found the search function in Windows 10 found what I was looking for most of the time.

So far things seem just as fast as Windows 10. FWIW, my machine has a Intel Core I5 6400T with 16GB of RAM. Graphics are pretty basic. Intel HD Graphics 530 integrated chip.

I ended up doing a clean install on my desktop.  Processed last nights recording with no issues.  Used RX 9, CD Wave, TLH and foobar.  Wavelab 6 works fine as well.

On a side note I built this rig in April with an 11th gen  i7.  At the time I used my old evo 970 nvme 500gb.  I just got a 1 tb WD Black sn850 to take advantage of pcie 4.0.  Check out this benchmark!

I recently made the jump to Windows 11 on my machine, and so far, it's been a smooth experience. However, I can understand your concerns about compatibility with audio processing software.
