Title: HHB portadat>661 transfer troubles
Post by: MakersMarc on December 10, 2016, 01:59:27 PM
I'm in the middle of transferring a few hundred master dats and am having trouble only with those lacking A Time.
When I was a noob I put a minute of playtime not record time at the beginning of tapes. A few are readable by the 661 but most won't lock a digital signal. Not a huge deal as they were almost all analog patch jobs just wondering if anyone's had this issue. It's
Not the deck as I tried two. Thanks!

If you fast forwarded a "minute" in before you recorded you need to fast forward to the start of the recording on the tape - the tape has no frames during the first minute you played through so there is no recorded sample rate setting - the HHB doesn't know what sample rate to set too as this information is missing on the tape during the section you played through.

FF to the beginning of audio and the HHB should be able to lock and pass a SPDIF signal

does the sampling rate setting on the HHB match what is on the tape?  Alot of pro decks you have to match the setting to the tape or it won't pass a signal (typically the tape will play but the sample rate indicator will flash to signal the tape and the sample rate setting are out of sync)

Duh, I bet that's it, I think my early recordings were 44.1. Thanks!
