Seems like the question is: Is balancing out the RMS levels of the recording sufficient to balance the soundstage? If so, you're good following the above. If not, you many want to check on Izotope Ozone's Imager, which can be useful if you want to mess with width and balance of soundstage. I use it to widen apparent soundstage on SBD recordings to great effect. It's part of elements, but standard is available for $99 right now.
