Dithering files from 96/24 to 44/16 with Sound Forge 10
« on: December 03, 2012, 07:21:25 AM »
A friend edited two shows I taped with soundforge and when the files are dithered to 44/16 from 96/24 and burned to cd there are a few clicks in between some tracks. In between the end of one track and the start of the next. Not between all tracks just one or two. I've used Trader Little Helper to fix the SBE's on the files but these " Clicks" are still there. When you join the two tracks on Soundforge you can hear the click in between the tracks on the 44/16 files, but not on the 96/24 files. Its not the burner software I'am using I've checked that with other stuff.
Anybody any idea why this is happening??? ???

When looking at it in Soundforge is there a spike related to the click/s or is there a gap ?

Go to where the files join and zoom way way in i bet theres a gap there and that will give you a click.

Spike, no gaps that I can see.

Yeah, he used soundforge to track. Is that what is causing these clicks. Whats the best software to track with?

Pretty much any audio editor could do it, I'd imagine.  Audacity is widely used and recommended for audio editing, esp because it is free.

I use Amadeus Pro which I find to be a quite capable and easy to use editor.  Beyond a full range of audio capabilities, it allows you to edit and save in a variety of audio filetypes including FLAC, allows VST and AU plugins for expanding its capabilities, can cut full sets into individual tracks along sector boundaries and can save cuesheets, and can tag mp3's and flac files.  The price for the latest 2.0 version has gone up though (I use 1.5.5), and it is now $60 iirc.

If you just want something for a one-time thing, Audacity is your best bet.  If you want an audio editor to use continually, I have used Audacity, Wave Editor, and Amadeus Pro, and all of them are good.  You might want to ask in the Team Mac thread to see what others are using.

I highlight what I want for a track, cut, paste to new track. I've never had any clicks for years, and they seemlessly match the beginning and end of each other.

I wqould just use soundforge to normalize/dither/resample/EQ/etc...and use cdwave for tracking and cue sheets ;) Then use traders little helper to FLAC and fix SBE's ;)

Got to agree with Bean.  Although of course if you use CD Wave you won't have any SBE's :)

Not true. You will get an SBEbat the end of each set if you don't make a dummy track

You can check SBE's automatically in Trader'sLittle Helper, why would you want to add in another program? I just track it out in Soundforge 10 Pro, then flac it out and do all the other stuff in Trader's Little Helper. You can get rid of all foreign metadata, and fix SBE's manually also in TLH. I don't use cue sheets and haven't in a while, so this process you use Bean would just add extra unnecessary steps for me.
