Irving Plaza taping question
« on: December 27, 2003, 03:09:47 PM »
I plan on attending a show in March and am planning on stealthing from the balcony.  Any suggestions regarding which mic element i should use?  I own the soundpro at853's and have cards, hyper and omni elements and was wondering which pair would give me the best results.  Any comments are appreciated  :D

Nice, can't wait.  What happened do you plan on seeing?  Let me know what kind of gear you sneak in also, i do recall they give a quick pat down of your front pockets and check bags also.  It should be pretty easy to get your gear in.

Security really depends on the show...i've never stealthed anything there, but I've been to shows with no pat-down, no bag check, and other shows with an extensive pat...also, sometimes they don't allow bags upstairs and make everyone check bags downstairs....ymmv...if you're up in the balcony, i'd say hypers are your best bet...but im sure cards would be fine...hope this helps...what show are you seeing btw??

I'm going to see Carbon Leaf, and they have an open taping policy.  So I wont be able to give you any stealthing advice, but I could let you know how the place sounds. ;)

I don't plan on lugging a bag with me, i'll probably crotch or sock my equipment.

In general, i think Irving sounds pretty good...never taped anything from up in the balcony, but it sounds good where the "section" usually is -- which is towards the middle of the floor, in front of the balcony and set off by some tape on the ground...it can be pretty rough trying to block at a crowded show as you'll be set up right in the middle of the floor......

doesn't BTE allow open taping? I'm pretty sure that they did as of a year or so ago...

I have heard they are cool with it, but never inform the venues....

I thought that was the case too - an old version of the bands that allow taping list had BTE on it, but one post on DAT-Heads are that they're ANTI-taping...weird.

I am also interested in knowing if they're open taping or not. I've heard what Nick said, which essentially means stealth only. I might do the C'Ville show.
Out of the game … for now?
