Title: what would cause pc speakers to hum?
Post by: Teen Wolf Blitzer on September 28, 2011, 04:28:46 PM
I have a pair of M-Audio AV20's on my PC.  They have developed a low frequency hum all of a sudden.  Even when unconnected to the PC.  If I plug them in in another room the moment I turn the on switch the hum appears.  It doesn't change when I raise or lower the volume.  They play fine.  Any ideas?

Bingo, I even have an interconnect cable that does this... I've sorted it out and use it in my office where I don't care as much. :-\

From your description it could be a bad filter capacitor in the speakers internal power supply.
