Title: Apogee Duet 2 vs Sound Devices 722 field comparison
Post by: df on April 22, 2015, 10:34:14 PM
I've been wanting to use an Apogee Duet 2 in the field and ran one Saturday at Wanee.

Here is an A/B comparison with Sound Devices 722.

Recording: Widespread Panic at Wanee Music Festival
Sample #1 - Neumann KM184's > Apogee Duet 2 > Macbook Pro @ 44.1 kHZ
Sample #2 - Neumann KM184's > Sound Devices 722 @ 48 kHZ
~same location, mic configuration, etc.

Too bad the Duet isn't more field friendly b/c it sounds pretty good.  the next model really needs an internal battery, it doesn't use to much power.

Why isn't it more "field friendly"in your view? Just the form factor?

I agree it's a fascinating device. HQ preamps obviously, small, 48V power. I see they also have a 4-channel version, though it costs $1500. Still, if it could replace buying decks...
