Title: Home Brew Silver Balanced Interconnects
Post by: LeftoverSammy on May 06, 2004, 05:33:56 PM
So I built these with right angle XLR's to connect to my V3 mic in so I don't have to remove my V3 from the Nova 4 bag to connect my Audio Magic mic cables to.

The cables are quad strand silver coated, teflon shielded, MIL spec cables. I purchased a 1M length of this cable from an auido engineer selling the shit on Ebay. http://cgi.earthlink.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33205&item=3094894842&rd=1

From what was stated the cable is suppose to be high quality stuff, so I gave it a try. Ran two cables in parallel to make up a quad config and heat shrinked the two together, added the right angle XLR's (so the V3 doesn't stress the end portion of the connector) and marked the dirrectional input for my Audio Magic cables to connect to.

As I type they are per-burning in at home on a repeat CD function for about 150hrs or so. Was fun building them!!

What do you folks think? Comments? Suggestions??

Thanks!

Close up of the XLR-F mic input side. Sorry for the blurry pix. Note color coded as well for input side and R/H channel ID.

I didn't want my Audio Magics attached to V3 hanging off my bag all the time (if I switched to R/A's) and I don't like pulling the V3 in and out of my Nova 4 bag too much (that pesky power cable is temperamental ya know).

Now all I have to do is a quick hook and and disconnect. If I don't like the sound or if they add too much coloration (if any) then I sell them off and do as you suggested (by adding R/A's on Magics).

I was in one of those "I need to build something for my gear" moods. In any account it was fun making  them. I can always pass them onto someone else if they don't appease me.
