Post by: SURFDOG on August 16, 2005, 02:52:05 PM
i posted in the general forum yesterday about my cableing problem but should have posted it in here i think. anyways can someone please recommend a way to set up my nomad jutebox 3 and mics and pre-amp,

i have the smk-c8k series superlux mics and i have a art phantom II pre-amp and of course my JB3, i need to know exactly what i need to get this working properly and where i can get it from either online or at radio shack. went to raidio shack and they set me up with a bunch of stuff that didnt work. so looking for the correct way to do this. Thanks in adance.

You dont have enough gear to have a "proper/correct" setup...

1 - Art Phantom II - is NOT A PREAMP - all that does is power the mics (turns them "on") - You need a preamp to record.

2 - You CAN hook the mics up directly to the recorder - but - unless you are recording Metallica from 20 ft away - you will not get anywhere near enough gain to make that setup work - HOWEVER - you can - at least - test your gear this way...

To do so:

2 of these:

2 of these:

2 of these:

and 1 of these:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=42-2550

Connect the mics to the ART Phantom Box via your balanced XLR cables.
Connect the RS Impedence adapters to the outputs of the ART Phantom box.
Connect the 1/4 > RCA to the impedence adapters
Connect the 1/4 > RCA to the RCA > RCA connector
Connect the 1/8 inch > Stereo RCA to the RCA > RCA Connectors
Plug the 1/8 inch > Stereo RCA to the JB3
Turn on the JB3.
Select "Record Audio"
Scroll to "Source" and select "Line In"
Scroll to "Monitor Recording" and select "44.1"

At this point - make some noise - you should see some activity on the JB3 meters...you may need to select "Gain" on the JB3 and bump it up to +12db.

Press the "Rec" button

NOTE: You can use a set of XLR cables between the Art Phantom output and the RS Impedence adapters if you are uncomfortable with them attached to the box.

NOTE 2: This is just one "adapter string" that does the job - there are many variations...YMMV
