Hey guys i just bought a dvd battery for my ua5 and had a question. the ua5 says its rated for 9v 450Ma the battery i got is 7.2V 4500mAH. i went to radio shack to get the adaptaplugs and the guys there told me that the ua5 wouldnt be able to resist 4500mAH has anyone run the ua5 like this? any other sugjestions>

The RS guy doesn't know what he's talking about.  The number to worry about is the voltage.  I believe others here run the UA5 off a 7.2v batt as well, so it should work fine.  Just make sure you wire the plug to the UA5 so it's tip negative, ring positive.

Just to shed some light,

The 4500 mA battery is the total capacity rating of the battery. (the size of a car's gas tank)

The UA5 is labled for how much current it draws. (i.e. mpg in car)

So the UA5 uses 0.45 amps per hour. and the 4500mA battery can supply 4.5amps per hour (total).

mAH = milliamp hours.

So theoreticaly, the UA5 should last approx 10 hrs on a full charge.

The good thing about Lithium Ions, they hold the voltage steady over the life of the battery. THey do lose capacity over life time.

NiMH lose voltage level over usage. If the voltage drops to low, the device will shut off.

When a LiO runs out of charge (fuel), it simply shuts off.

Hope this helps others.

I use the 7.2 volt battery, and have run my UA-5 for about 5 or 6 hours, without it shutting off.  You'll be fine with it.

I plan on using this battery. What voltages can the UA5 run off of ??? Can it run fine off of a 9v DVD Battery? Or do I need a 7.2v DVD Battery/RC Battery ???

Id rather go the DVD Battery route over the RC Battery route at this point in time, so any help is appreciated :)

Here is the Lenmar DVD Battery I plan on buying :)

I used to run my UA5 off a 9v DVD battery.  It worked just fine...  Lots of other people used the 7.2v RC Car battery with no issues...

Cool, I'm going the DVD Battery route this time! Thanks for the info fellas ;)

And to all you NEWBIES, please note that I actually used the "SEARCH FUNCTION" before starting a new thread :P ;D 8)
