Title: what do i need dump dat onto laptop

what if any kind of periferals will i need to download dats onto my laptop to process and burn to cd?

"SEARCH" is your friend. 

Otherwise, you need a capture device of some kind to do it right.  You can run line-out and do 1/8" in on your soundcard, but that's only going to add noise to your recording.

The most reliable way I've found is to go from your DAT to a Hosa ODL-276 via S/PDIF coaxial cable with RCA ends, optical out of the ODL-276 and into a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox 3 (NJB3 in ts.com-speak) to record an identical copy onto the NJB3.  Then, after the recorded copy has been made, go firewire or USB out of the NJB3 into your laptop.

thanks thats a good option.
