Title: Best setup for recording a DJ set
Post by: PureWeen on September 20, 2007, 07:53:30 PM
So after reading through lots of stuff I figure I'll just ask anyway

I just want a device that I can plug into the mixer during live sets to record mixes and get a nice high quality recording...obviously :)

I've been looking at the Edirol 09 device and it seems like the IRiver/RockBox is the main competitive choice.

I was curious if anyone could tell me what the notable differences are. Or if you have a different device recommendation I'd love to hear them..

Thank you ahead of time

Both are good.

Differences:

R-09 is 24 bit and records to SD cards.

iRiver is 16 bit and records to a hard drive.

If the DJ is spinning VINYL I would go with the R-09 for the highest quality (24bit). I can clearly hear the difference between Vinyl > 24bit and Vinyl > 16bit.

If they are using CD's or a laptop with 16bit files, the R-09 won't help as the files are already 16bit, then go with the iRiver (unless you foresee recording anything else (live bands) or DJ's that use vinyl.
