Since the R-09HR now has a much quieter MIC preamplifier, thought I try recording our neighborhood ILLIGAL 4th of July fireworks (having many rocket displays) WITHOUT using a LINE preamplifier.

SUGGESTION:
Turn up listening volume so background noise is just barely audible for most realistic experience on open type headphones, or wide spaced stereo speakers aimed to focus in front of a centered listening position; this allows very wide stable imaging way-off-center listening ability. If available, turn on surround speaker Dolby Pro Logic or DTS NEO 6 2-channel to surround decoders for enhanced surround experience.
