I have a little cheap $5 dollar umbrella.  I cut the handle of the end, wrapped several rounds of hockey stick tape around the end of the shaft, and it fits perfectly into the hole of a Windtech C Clamp.

I got mine at REI Outfitters.  The umbrella is built to clamp onto a chair but works perfectly for clamping to a stand. $5.99 when I got it.

Standard umbrella disclaimer.  If you use one make sure to bring tent stakes and bungie cords or your stand will go over at the first big gust.

I have an umbrella with wind vents in it so when it gets a good gust, the wind travels thru the umbrella slightly instead of getting caught up in the umbrella and knocking it over :) I got it at Wal-Mart about 5-6 years ago at least tho for around 10-15 dollars! Well worth the little extra $$ compared to a regular umbrella :)

I agree tho, I ALWAYS have tent stakes and lots of duct tape so my stand is VERY STURDY and the wind doesn't knock it over. The vented umbrella helps alot too tho!

They had a vented version at REI too...  That was made to clip to a golf bag.  I almost went for it but figured that it may pass more wind noise/flapping of the vents to the mics.  I have no idea if that is right or not but had to make the choice on the spot.  I think the vented was about $10 more.

cool. yeah, I have never heard any artifacts from the vents and Ive taped in many CRAZY windstorms/storms with it. nor does it pass a huge amount of wind either. it just takes some pressure/relief off of the wind gusts, thats all :)

That was nice Taper's umbrella. I like it, but I think it will be very big for me. still the it looks very good and even material also seems nice. I  had never buy this type of umbrellas. I was just wondering that i it could be in black then it might looks more beautiful.  I am sure that it works well.

The big tent stakes that look like big nails, and have a plastic tab at the head end are big enough that you just drive them between the leg braces of the stand, then you don't need bungies.

Hey, I like that idea. I have one of those clamps. Of couse, being in the Deep South, I'll have to find a substitute for hockey stick tape!  ;D

Or you could grab a Gakbrella from Ted if he's still making them! They're small, effective, and have adapters for 3/8-5/8. I got mine from him about 6 months ago. Not sure if he's made another wave yet... Ted? Paging Ted!  ;D

edit:  Found his thread for them with some photos... http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=127411.msg1750998#msg1750998
