Running via USB out directly into a Vaio? Can you do 24/96 this way stability wise?

24/48 is going to be the stability limit of usb, from everything I've seen (a little) and read (a lot!)
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.... 24/96 doesn't even use up half of USB 1.1's bandwidth.

So how are you guys successfully running 24/96? What's in the chain needed to do it hardware wise?

its not everyone, I think it is actually very few people who have gotten 24/96 over usb.
maybe only certain chipsets can do it succesfully...I dont know.

as far as bandwidth of the usb bus is concerned it should be able to be done with relative ease as 24/96 only uses about 4.6mbs which is slightly less than half the bandwidth available to usb 1.1

I did some 24/96 UA5>laptop recordings.  I think only half came out clean, the others had dropped samples.  I gave up and stuck to 24/48 and its been very stable.

How do I know if I'm dropping samples?  Is there some way to scan for them?

I've attempted 24/96 from the UA-5 over USB to about 4 different laptops.  The only one that I had complete stability on was an HP Omnibook 500.  Which was a slick little notebook and probably sells cheap these days on eBay.  I'd buy one again in a  heartbeat.  I had no problems running XP and very little "fine tuning".

Viao...forgetaboutit
IBM....I could do 24/48 on an realy old model I was using (560, I think).  It was a PII, 266mHz w/ 160mb RAM.  It worked fine for 24/44.1 but I had some trouble with it at first, took a lot of tweaking.

Oder Dell Latitdue...same deal.  Lots of tweaking, not very reliable.

Bring on the FA-101 !!

Is there another way to do it not using USB?

i have ran 24/96 for the last 6 shows I taped, not a single problem.  I have a Dell Inspiron 8100.  If someone would explain how to check for dropped samples I would, but not a single problem that i can hear.
