dap1 7.2v vs 6v ??
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:54:12 AM »
so i was gifted an older dap1 and i have wired a 6v for field use.  just recently a friend mentioned that 7.2 is more ideal.
anyone care to explain this to me?  it works with 6v, so who is actually correct?

thanks in advance.

I always used a 6V.  couldn't answer why it would be more ideal.

While the DA-P1 will operate on 6 volts, its actually made to run on 7.2.  There have been conflicting reports on whether operating at 6 volts can cause additional wear on the deck.  People commonly operate them off 6 volts, because 6 volt SLAs are readily available off the shelf.  I've run a DA-P1 in the field off 6 volts for almost 10 years now, whether that resulted into extra trips to pro-digital or not, I can't say.

Although it's irrelevant to your issue, there is an Oade mod for the DAP1 which Doug has post instructions for in his forums - seeing that he is no longer performing the mod himself. If you’re handy with a soldering iron, you may be interested in taking a look.
