Microtrack deck settings are not the usual, and knowing how they work will help your very first recordings come out in a good manner.   Best to read the review and gain chart provided to know what settings work with what input at: www.sonicstudios.com/mt2496rv.htm

Then ask further questions here to fine-tune settings appropriate for your microphone type, chosen deck input, and specific recording subjects of interest.

The very first thing I would do is download and install the latest firmware from the m-audio website.  I believe it is version 1.4.3.  This is pretty much mandatory to use it properly out of the box.

you want L (if the SP mic power thing you got is what i think it is) and Stereo
as suggested read some of these links--there is also a manual you can DL at m-audio if you don't have one
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

Do you know if the manual is current with the latest firmware or is it still based on the initial
firmware version.  Lots of behavior changed with the various firmware releases.

Manual is still original nearly a year old, so not much help with at least the updated indication features.

thank you for the reply.

i upgraded the firmware and setted with L and stereo

i have the transcend 4g 120x and it seems to be working but
it's a little unstable,

it sometimes tells me that the media is full, but if i push record again, it works fine.

and stereo only allows you to record 3 hours with 4g...  hmm...

oh well.

thanx for the help!!!!

the time left, depending on the setting you have it on will give you "worst case"
if you check the bit rate and sample rate you will see the time change too
if its on auto or 24/96 you will get the shortest time shown

I have the same "media is full" message with my transcend 4gb cf card. I just push record 2x usually rapidly but it does not matter. The second push of record always works. I have a kingston 2gb CF and a Seagate 5gb Microdrive and this does not happen with those cards. My gut uneducated guess is that it has something to do with the speed. My Transcend card is 120x speed and that is much faster than the other 2 cards. The MT seems to like slow cards, but it is a non-issue once you get used to it.

As for the 3 hour time, that is the time for 2gb, because that is all you can record until the file is full. There is no auto 2gb file split  ;). You can only record 2gb at a time. When I am done recording, and start a new file it goes back to saying I have 3 hours (really 3:09 or some such amount).

I don't quite get what you mean by this?  By the smiley I'm guesing that you mean that the 2GB autospilt that the MicroTrack has is not all that useful?  To say it doesn't have autosplit is misleading.  To say it's not seamless would be quite accurate though (5-7 second gap between files).

autosplit means it will stop and start a new recording on its own and good autosplits will not miss any of the recording
the mt does not start a new recoridng on its own-thus you have no autosplit
what the mt has is a 2gb record limit per file
you can then start a new recording if there is room on the card and miss about 7 sec of time

I recorded the other night.  2 sets.  No issues with the 2,000,000,000 byte limit  ;D

I did hit record before I fed the MT a SP/DIF signal.  I defintely paniced and lost about 30 secs of music.
With the 1.4.3 firmware it didn't seem to lockup at least but it wouldn't record right away after starting and
stopping the recording.  I'm not sure what got it to kick in as I was pressing lots of buttons frantically.  It was
definitely my fault though.

My MicroTrack does start a new recording after it reaches the 2GB file limit on it's own.  It will continue doing so, without my interevention, until my 8GB media is full at which point it saves the recording and stops.  Are you sure yours doesn't do the same?

You are correct, the newest firmware does have auto filesplit, my mistake in saying it does not. BUT it is not a seamless file split (you lose 6 or 7 seconds), While I have never needed to use the filesplit feature  ;), I have heard some here say it is a bit faster if they do it manually.
