Can anyone recommend a good quality USB or Firewire video capture device?

Thanks,
Joe

i used the dazzle series, not too expensive, but not top of the line.

Thanks  jpschust,

I have a dazzle device now.  I believe its the DVC 80.  I'm looking for something with better specs. There was an ATI TV Wonder DVD but it has been discontinued. Anyone know of  anything better, either USb or Firewire.

what about just getting a firewire card for your computer?

I'm not sure I understand your question.  I have both Firewire and USB.  I'm looking for a device that will connect to either, it doesn't really matter.  Part of the time it will be used with a laptop so a PCI card is not an option.

I don't know what kind of captures you are aftre so I'm assuming you will be going for a decent quality. I have a Canopus ADVC-100 which captures in DV and works very well. Has a firewire connection ofcourse as USB wouldn't support the data rates well enough without drop outs. I feel it's reasonably priced as well.

I wasn't really thinking.  Will you be going from a DV cam, or from VHS or other camcorder sources?

if you're going from a DV cam all you need is a program to capture the video and a cable to connect your DV cam to the card.

DVApp is a great little app for capturing via firewire.  Very small, and not bloated software like most other capping programs.
