Title: ADK TL flight case w/broken locks ... what to do?
Post by: fleish on August 12, 2009, 08:20:13 PM
I returned home from Washington the other day and found my place had been broken into :( I was insanely lucky to find that while they clearly went from room to room searching through my stuff, they didn't make a crazy mess & they only took my emergency cash I had locked away. However, they did bust the case locks on my ADK TL flight case, making it kind of useless unless I want to use tape or bungees to keep it somewhat closed. Does anyone know if these can be repaired and how much that might run me vs. buying a replacement case from somewhere. Either way, if you know of a reliable place to either get the work done or purchase a new one please include that in your reply. Thanks in advance.

Do you have home owners insurance or renters insurance....make a claim, the insurance should easily cover the cost of a replacement....

ADK is also really cool about sending replacement stuff.  If you call them and explain what happened and say you would like to purchase one....they might, just might, send you one free of charge...I have heard they have down this with broken mounts....Customer service is top notch with those guys...

Peace...sending good karma your way.....

OOK

I knew I was forgetting a crucial piece of the puzzle. Negative on the insurance. Thanks for the idea, I've also heard great stories about ADK customer service. Also thanks for the good karma send ... apparently I'm more in need of it than I realized.

Also another thing to consider...I did this just a couple of months ago..Buy your self some business cards...blank...print out a couple of cards with each piece of gear you own with their serial numbers and price you paid for each piece of gear new.... and keep one card in your wallet....give one to your parents...brother, sister, significant other, who ever you trust.  This way you will always have a record of your stuff somewhere.... so when you now purchase insurance...you have relevant information at your fingertips for the insurance company and the cops......

Get yourself renters insurance or home owners....you can even get a special policy just for your gear...usually cheap... then your covered...

OOK

Or send an email to hotmail/gmail/other online accessible account with all the details. Save it to the server. Also a good idea to do this with a scanned image of your ID/travel documents when you travel.

You need to contact Larry at ADK and tell him what happened.  I'll bet you get new cases free.  They are the best customer service I have ever experienced.  I had a busted shock mount and called to buy a new one.  Larry (the president of the company) told me I am part of the ADK team and he sent me a new one even though it was two years old!  Get a hold of them you'll be suprised how well they will take care of you, Kirk

Larry is the best and once he sent me two new shock mounts for free and it turned out one had a bad thread so he sent me a new one again free of charge. I also managed to screw up my locks on my case but I was able to fix w/ a small screw driver (glasses repair) but it most likely was not as bad as yours.
Peace

On the positive, I hope ADK is going to treat you as well as they have others in the past.

I still have the flight case for my old pair of TLs
I sold them with out the case as I never used it and the buyer said they wouldn't use it either

I can send it out if you pay for shipping

Thanks everyone for the replies. It's nice to hear happy stories after something so crappy happening. I emailed Larry and he's going to send me an LE case - which will probably require a little padding around the mics but otherwise work well. I may also take you up on your offer Tim - will send you a PM.

Just to fill everyone in on the conclusion of the story - the LE case arrived along with some low-pro screw mounts Larry was kind enough to throw in. I've never had such pleasant and easy dealings with any manufacturer before. What a stand-up guy & company. The case is a little different than I expected based on the description I got. The bigger slots for the mics can be worked around with some extra padding - but notice the LE case lacks a second set of big circular spots for either the large shockmounts or windscreens that the TL case has. I thought about trying to pull the old switcharoo with the foam inserts but they seem pretty well seated in there.

Larry is #1 in customer service ;) You might be able to run a razor around the edge of the foam and ease it out carefully.
