Sennheiser MZF 800 low cut filter module for MKH 8000 series
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:39:13 PM »
Hi all -

Just saw this out on Senn USA's site, was curious if anyone had any experience with it yet.  Although, at an MSRP of $712 (I'm assuming that's each) all I can say is, OUCH!

Um...., that's a low CUT filter.

I got excited when I saw the header, since I am low passing omni tracks (in Wavelab) to mix with cardioid tracks for bass fill-in, and would love to record two tracks.  Schoeps makes such a low pass filter, but I haven't found others.

Oops, thanks, corrected....

FWIW, the low cut is a pretty important development for these mics - mine really pick up the low end which is great when used outside or in low SPL settings, but not so great in small or boomy rooms.

It's basically a switchable bass roll-off filter and switchable -10dB pad for the MKH 8000 series.

It goes in between the mic and XLR (or on the bottom end of an extension tube or remote cable).

Does what is says on the tin.

Hi John -

Have you tried these out yet?  Any thoughts?

No, not tried them yet - still trying to persuade them to do one with a treble lift for the omni heads.

But I will probably get a pair eventually - but it's so rare that I need a low-cut and will never need the 10dB pad.

Personally, I wish they had dispensed with the 10dB pad and used the second switch for a diffuse-field (treble-lift) filter for the omni.
