ADK TL mic storage
« on: October 20, 2007, 03:06:25 AM »
Hey all... Just wondering if anyone has found a good solution to storing their TLs in their bag.  I'd like to move up from the Crown Royal pouches.   For my 480s I use a Pelican 1060 and would like to find something similar.  As far as pelican it seems like the 1150 would fit them but it is too thick on the outside measurements to fit in my bag with the R-4.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Get one of those aluminum briefcases with the foam in it, Gator makes them I believe.

Yea... That might be a bit to big to fit in my gear bag.  It's pretty much like the flight case they came with.  Something like the pelican 1060 would be perfect if it was 2-3 inches wider.

JBK used to use pouches that one would use to protect a glass tobacco pipe

I use a padded nylon bag & their windscreens or a Platt 207 molded case (ok, it's actually called a 'blow molded case' but I wasn't comfortable saying that  ;)).  Its inner dimensions are 9.5" x 6" x 2.68".  It's nowhere near as nice as a Pelican case but they're considerably cheaper.  If I had to buy one again I'd look into the Platt 204 or possibly the 107 mainly for space considerations like yourself.

One of the cats found the case open and empty a while back & took some flesh out from a couple of  spots.  >:(  I can't remember what I put in the other two open spots, but it seems to me that I could have gone at least an inch (possibly 2) shorter and still have enough padding on all sides.

Cool, glad to be of assistance.  BTW, how do you like your mod'd TLs?  Any samples posted anywhere?  thanks

Just got them back.  Was going to use them this weekend at Joshua Tree music fest but was not able to go.  The first run with them will be Monday for Pnuma Trio and Signal Path.  I'll put some samples out if all goes well.

Right on.  I love the TLs but sometimes with my rig (mp-2>r-09) I wish for a little less sizzle on the high end and a little more steak on the low end.  Hopefully the Peluso capsules will help in those matters.  Good luck on the maiden voyage Monday.

Here is the first outing with the modded TLs.  It's the 16bit version.  If you want I can give you a FTP logon for the 24 (To my ears there is a pretty big difference in the 24bit on playback).  I was running them set to cards in a small dive bar with a pretty good sound system.

Do you know of one that would fit in a gear bag? 8"-9" wide and 5"-8" tall and <= 4" deep are my params.  I figure they should be pretty protected anyway since this case will go in my gear bag.  Hopefully they should not go though armageddon.  I was really surprised that pelican did not have anything for this size.

Depending how protected you want them to be, you might look into something from Rose Plastics. I use some of the twist packs for my telescope eyepieces. One of them may be close enough in size to fit a ld mic. If you think a case would be better, try one of their cases.  http://www.rose-plastic.us/frames/gb/usa/fr_technisch.php  One caveat is their listed minimum caselot is too large for me to even consider and my emails to them asking for more information and/or samples have gone unanswered. Luckily my local telescope dealer stocks some of the twist packs and sells them individually. They also stock a small eyepiece case which may suit your needs though it looks like you would have to recut/replace the foam. http://www.astronomics.com/main/search.asp?catsearch_header=Astronomics&keyword=eyepiece+case&x=0&y=0

If you scroll through the different product list there are different dimensions.

I would also check out Otter Boxes. Here is a link to all their different sizes

T+ will be taking a look.  Now that I have had a few outings with the mod TLs they are something I want protected for sure.  Could not be more happy with them.
