Wanna get some DATs other than these *&#&*@#) Sonys that always seem to have a dropout. Seems that the Maxells are highly thought of. Do I need to move to Audio DATs?
-Kevin

??? the maxells are dds tapes, not sure what you're getting at.
-
Guess I used the wrong terminology. I have Sony DDS tapes that alwyas have dropouts. Just trying to figure out what brand to try next.

Have you had your dat checked out recently? If your getting dropouts reguarly, I doubt its the tapes... I have yet to have 1 dropout with sonys... Just a through FWIW
-
It got a thumbs up from ProDigital a few(4-5) months ago.

it could be the deck...try another brand, but I have used Sony DDS exclusively for a few years, with no problems....
-
Hope its not the deck, but you guys aren't helping my spirits. ;)
-Kevin
-
try a different brand and see....that is the best way to trouble shoot it
-
maxell hs4s are what i used exclusively, and what i will be using exclusively when i get another deck
-
used both maxell, and sony DDS tapes without a problem. well one, but it was my own stupid mistake of locking the tape. don't worry about the deck man... i phreaked too a month after i got mine back from pro digital, and it wouldn't play any tapes.. it just needed a cleaning tape. watch your hrs. if i dont' clean mine every 30 hrs or so it will start to get stupid like that... i always carry a cleaning tape to shows too, just in case... good luck.. +T

Gonna run a cleaner through it and see what happens.
-Kevin
-
How long do you run them for? 10-20 secs?
-Kevin
-
10 seconds
-
10 seconds
no longer either!!!
-
good point bean and only run the cleaning tape through once..when it is done, toss it. never rewind and rerun a cleaning tape...you would just be reintroducing the crap it may have cleaned from your deck before...back to your deck

also a great point nick

Is there a problem with cleaning for longer than 10 secs or is it just overkill?

The dry cleaning tapes are a bit abrasive and will wear your heads unnecessarily if run too long.
-
really? you can't reuse them? I knew you couldn't rewind them but i thought you could use them again.

Using them multiple times - but with a fresh strip of cleaning tape every run - probably isn't technically re-use. Just ongoing use. You're correct - it's rewinding and reusing that's the issue.
