Title: RCA (L/R) to mini (1/8 inch)?
Post by: jklock on September 28, 2011, 12:58:47 PM
Hi all,

I apologize for what is definitely a redundant topic.  I am recording from the soundboard at a venue in NY soon and was told that "All you’ll need is an RCA (L/R) to mini (1/8 inch) cable to grab the feed from our board."  Can anyone link me to something on amazon or other site that is somewhat inexpensive?  I was looking online before but was getting confused with all of the different kinds of cables and don't want to accidently purchase the wrong one.  Thank you!

I build custom cables, my link in in my signature, but you can pick up a relatively inexpesive one at radio shack.

This is my most useful audio adapter cable, they are available in most every store that sells any electronics. Radio Shack, Best Buy, Fry's, Fred Meyer

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-Stereo-3-5mm-Right-CMR-206R/dp/B0032IBYY8/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1317235882&sr=1-8

or

I like right angle connectors on the 1/8" inch end as it is cleaner connecting to my recorder.

Or for a bulletproof custom, have Ted build you one.

I also would suggest adding 2 each of these adapters to your kit,

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-GXM-133-Female-Male-Adaptor/dp/B000068O4D/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1317236196&sr=1-1

these will fit on your 1/8" to RCA cable and handle most patching situations.

this will cover the rest.

^ Pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

A right angle connector at your recorder input can be nice because the torque that's put on the cable when it gets pulled on doesn't necessarily automatically work to pull the connector out of the socket.  With a right angle connector, it's also convenient to put a rubber band around both my handheld recorder and the cable.  This provides ample stress relief on the connector and socket for any cable pulls that may occur, since you're pulling on the rubber band instead of putting stress on the connector/socket combo, not to mention helping to keep the cable from being pulled out.

+1 to Monoprice.  Cables have never let me down.  Just picked up this exact cable (3' version) for just over $5 shipped to Toronto, Canada (cheaper than ANYWHERE ELSE I could buy from and had it in a week).
