Title: is the original nomad jukebox any good for recording

i just got a creative nomad jukebox hoping to use it to tape shows did i fuck up and buy the wrong one

the jb3 is the only unit that can record uncompressed .wav.  sorry for the bad news...

If the 6 gig is the same as the 10 gig  I used to have, it records 16 bit .wavs up to 48khz sampling rate from a line level analog in (no mic level, no digital in). You might need a firmware upgrade to get level meters. You'll need external power -- the internal batteries only give about 20 minutes of recording. The good thing is that it runs on 9-12 volts, so it's easier to power than the JB3.

With those caveats, it's still a useful recording device if you're not hung up on having the newest and shiniest.

Get a set of mics with a battery box or get a pre-amp with line-out...

You can use the Walmart 9v battery to power the JB...
