Title: $3K to play with.....not a trolling post I promise
Post by: Xpanding Man on January 15, 2008, 06:38:05 PM
my insurance settlement from the stolen rig will be about 3k

what would you do ?  what would you buy ?  all i have to my name at this point is an iriver, an mp2, and my AT943s for stealthing

i would like to still have a stealth rig (the 943s > ? > iriver)  i'm not sold on the sound of the mp2 with the 943s, so maybe that gets sold to fund a Sax, which i could use with both the stealth and open rigs

for the open rig.  i'm thinking of keeping some of the attributes i liked on my last rig, so here's the idea

ADK TLs > V2 / Sax > Mini me > 24 bit recorder  (estimated costs - 600+700+600+?)

so that leaves about a grand for a 24 bit recorder, maybe more if i decide to keep it simple and just run TL > mini me.

thoughts ?

Yep.  beyerdynamic sound great, and an all-in-one box would really simplify things.

Then get your mics in the right place in the room.  Hang them over the stage if you have to, but get them up close...

schoeps mk4>Nbox>Korg MR-1. Right around $3k if you can get the mk4s used. Or sell the stuff you have and buy new.

Get rid of the SD MP-2 and buy an Aerco MP-2.  It's small enough that you'd still be able to use it for undercover, but the sound is great enough that you'd still want to use it to do double duty with your open rig.  It's that good.

Schoeps, as you know, is an investment.  I am basing the following on your need to stealf.

Lemosax $850
KCY       $750
mk4       $1000 or mk4v $1400 (absolutely the best for stealfing and getting the biggest soundstage)

This is all assuming you can get them used.  The Nbox is also a wise choice but will not allow you to run let's say a vst62 if you wanted to run the KCY into bodies instead or came across a vms02ib (which is the ultimate for portability and SQ).

I vote TL's>v2>ACM Hd-P2....How often do you stealth>?  Is it really worth the cash to dump in to something you might not do all that often?  Or another option is to get the TL'S Busman Modded as well!!

I echo drew, dirk and richard.

beyer>acm671

Killer rig and you pocket a bunch of dough.  Keep the stealth rig if you use it, if not, sell them and also pick up some multipattern ld's (like your adk's) for flexibility.  Still pocketing some dough.
