What bags are people using for their SD 7xx recorders?

Looking to get something for my 744T. Wondering what my options were other than the SD bag and a PB.

I use a soniccase, 3 shelf.  It was well worth the extra cost.  I also like some of the portabrace bags and petrol bags that I have seen.....When your spending the kind of money we spend on the SD recorders and mics to go with them its worth spending the money on a really good bag designed for what we do.

Mountainsmith bags offer zero padding and minimal moisture protection but don't say high end electronic gear inside to potential thieves/muggers. I use a portabrace inside a MS Cairn

Most I know and tape with use this same bag. Some with the Portabrace AR-7 by itself also inside for double protection. Love mine with the 722. I have tons of spare room for whatever. ;D
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can

If money isn't an issue, I used to have the PB with RM Multi attached and I gotta say that the Petrol PEGZ-1 that I just picked up is a better bag than the PB.  It's really nice and has tons of extra space without really being a whole lot bigger bag.  The snorkels on the PEGZ are awesome too with drawstring ties instead of the somewhat open-and-easy-to-lose-stuff-out-of PB set up.  Don't get me wrong, I liked the PB bag alot and of course the AR-7 is specially designed for the 744.  I'd never recommend against it, but this PEGZ-1 is just a REALLY nice bag.

If you are a cheap-ass like I am, get an Irwin tool bag.  It is huge, can carry three 7xx's, mics and cables.  Cost: $30.  I got mine for $20 on sale.  Why spend money needlessly?  YMMV

I got a used Pelican case from somewhere, can fit SD722, SD302, monitor headphones, recharger, spare battery, Oktava 012 6 capsule stereo set, DPA 4006 stereo set, Sanken COS-11 set, and some ods and ends in it. For in-the-act carrying a dedicated PortaBrace with that X-suspender thingy.

thanks for the tips, everyone. i'll +T you when i have the ability to do so again!  ;)

i ended up going with the Lowepro Nova 5 AW. picked one up new on eBay for $30.80 shipped after MS cash back. couldn't really say no to that deal. it just arrived today, and i loaded it up, and it's pretty much the perfect size for what i've got. i'm sure i'll have to rearrange things a few times before i get it just the way i like it, but like i said, it seems like this is just what i was looking for.

I like a bag that allows me to change the battery while the mic, mixer and headphone
cables stay hooked up.  That usually means a way to open the bottom of the bag.
Most Portabrace and Petrol bags let you do this.  Camera bags don't.

Irwin tool bags do not excite gear thieves either.      8)

But, I do not often do rock concert gigs and only leave my gear alone when I have a trusted person there to protect it.  When I unload gear it is the cables and stands first, mics and recorders last.  Vice versa when loading the truck.  I want the expensive stuff locked up as long as possible.  Steal my stands, well OK, you are a shit-heel.  Steal the high end stuff and I am crying all the way home.  And, when stolen from a locked vehicle it is insured.  Unlocked, "So sorry, Charlie."

So that clunky Irwin tool bag is locked in the truck except when I am carrying it from or to a locked vehicle or when at my feet while I am recording.  If I am recoding a bar band I order my soda, hand the bartender a five for a tip up front because soda is almost always a free refill, and we are good for the night.  He knows I looked out for him and usually will do the same for me in case I have no one to watch my stuff and have to pee.  Drinking soda I can last for hours, though.    ;D

Bottom line: consider everyone except a trusted few to be a potential thief.  And keep your eye on the trusted few.

When doing classical gigs in concert halls this is not a problem.  I get a secure offstage spot.
