Single Channel Dropout Lastnight
« on: January 04, 2004, 05:38:46 PM »
Taping Garaj Mahal last night, stage lip.  First set, perfect.  Second, fine for 45, then this.

Right channel drops.  Hooked up everything here at home and can't seem to duplicate it.  Sounds like I can hear the XLR click at the very end.

AKG 393 -> UA-5 -> D7

Low batteries... It pleagued my UA-5 at bonneroo this year.  It dropped down to one mic signal then eventually the one remaining signal fadded out and then there was nothing.   Especially since you said you couldn't duplicate it at home.  If it was bad hardware (mic or cable) you would also have the problem at home.  Mic cables and mic's usually work, or they don't work.  I now keep a small volt meter in my bag and if the UA5 drops under 10.3 volts, I hotswap the battery.

Hmm, maybe my battery wasn't fully charged.  I brought 2 and swapped at set break.  Sounds like a good reason to drop these 1600mAh for the 3000.

yea, I need to pickup a 3000 also, the older my batteries get the less reliable they are becoming.  It would be nice to have a 3000 and not have to worry about it.

Starting to wonder if I really need a 3000 or not.  Both sets last night were about 1.5 hours.  First set was fine.  Second set, switch battery packs,  right channel dropped about 45 in but the left was there the entire time.  Looks like I have enough juice, just the second pack was fully charged or has something wrong with it.

maybe you should try re-creating the situation with the same time constraints as last night, but do it at home... watch that volt meter

Definately need to do that.  Need to get a volt meter first.
