Help me out w/ JB3 transfers
« on: March 18, 2004, 01:30:41 AM »
I've got a problem transferring from the jb3 to computer and from computer to jb3.

When I transfer from JB3 to computer it will transfer fine for 30 sec to 1 minute then just stops. An error message then pops up and says: "The operation failed. Ensure player is properly connected before trying again."

And when transferring from computer to jb3 again it transfers ok for a while then stops. Anyone got a solution, reformat?  BTW firmware is 1.40.06 and transferring via USB.

I have had a similar problem using firewire, while usb 1.1 has been fine.  maybe you could cite which one you are having a problem with.  no matter though i woudl recomend posing it to the njb3 tapers group at yahoo.  (maybe it is in the faq?)  let me know if you come up with anything.

Did the original poster get this fixed?  I am getting the same error as well.   I got all 10 gigs of my mp3s transferred there origianlly and it was working fine until I tried to import my latest recording.  I get's to some point in the upload (anywhere from 10 - 70%) and then I get that error.  Any ideas?  I have no idea what firmware version I am using (how do I check that?), and I am transferring through USB.  Thanks!

Sorry to abandon this thread there for awhile. No, never did get this resolved. I uninstalled everything then rebooted it, and thought I had it fixed when the error message came back up at like 60% done instead of like 10% before. And also I am running 1.40.06, so i'm running out of ideas. If I upgrade to firewire will I get this same problem?

i dunno honestly, but it cannot hurt, plus, your uploads will be alot quicker!!

so you really cant go wrong there;-)

do you have the firewire cable??

its really easy to install actually, just plug it in and let your comp search for the new connection

It may not fix it for you.  I get the same thing sometimes on firewire.  I have 2 possible fixes

1. don't touch your pc while transferring - if I start doing stuff it's more likely to fail.  Maybe the JB3 doesn't do well if the pc bus gets busy

2. this is weird but consistently works.  Record a few seconds of nothing on line-in.  Stop, get out of record mode and then try again.   No clue why, but it has consistently worked.  I haven't had to do this since the most recent driver update but give it a try.

i am having this problem again. not touching the pc at all while transferring, last night i even yanked the wifi card to see if that helped.

i will try the second suggestion dave had above, and see if that works.

not sure which driver i'm using (playcenter is not installed, just notmad), but my firmware is 1.40 - and i had similar problems with 1.32

Isn't there a difference between USB cables, also?  I was under the impression that you need a good USB 2 rated cable.  Maybe a shit cable is bugging up the works?

mine just started to so this, this past weekend.
I needed to empty the contents onto disk for a festival.
It would upload a few tracks (maybe 1gb -2 gbs) then after it was done uploading
a track it would then disconnect.
I would close the center out pull the usb cable and then reconnect the jb3.
Everything synched back up and I would repeat. It did this several times.
I thought it might have been overheating since the JB3 had about 15+ gbs of music on it.
I flipped the JB3 over and proceeded again.
It still did it to me so I am not too sure either.
Nothing changed in my setup other then I moved..
I am just glad I was able to get 3 or 4 tracks up before it would disconnect.
I had too many things to do, to babysit it all day.
I don't have firewire yet but maybe soon...
Oh I might add that after I wiped the drive clean and recorded this past weekend
I then xfered those shows onto the hard drive and it did not give any problems at all.
So maybe the drive was too full and it was just heating up?
I have not ever had a overheat issue out in the field so I am not sure about that either..

Just FYI I posted this along time ago in the Jb3 thread.

I have 3 of these currently Installed In my machines and have two friends running them aswell . Easiest piece of hardware I have ever installed ,WD got there shit together when they put this card together and ya can't hardly beat the price.. I like having a card from someone that has been in the game for awhile and would prolly have decent/Non buggy drivers ... sure enough..

you can find them on ebay for under $10 shipped..

I tried searching the FAQ's but didn't see anything that was quite in line with my problem:

I am trying to do a transfer to my PC from my second JB3 but the PlayCenter (v. 3.02.50) is not recognizing it. I have tried to connect it via firewire and USB to no avail. The little Windows bubble pops up that it found new hardware though...

The firmware version on the JB3 is 1.40.06p and I have tried multiple firewire cables as well. My first JB3 has version 1.32.02p on it and I have never had any problem transfering from it.

I downloaded the Nomad Explorer to my computer so I could dump the JB3 and install another firmware version, but it is not recognized through that application either. I would rather avoid installing the newer version without backing up my recordings first (there's a Phil show from Red Rocks a couple weeks ago running split omni's that sounds great!!). Any suggestions? Master Bean, you out there?  ;)

Thanks in advance

Benny,

I am using XP pro with 4 user accounts on it.  It seems that if I plug the JB3 in with the firewire when there is more than 1 user logged in, the Creative playcenter starts on all the accounts/users, but the files only show up on one.  I have to switch to each of the logged on users and see which one shows the files.  If I am the only one logged in, it starts up just fine.

Does any one know how to keep the playcenter from starting up on all logged in accounts on XP pro.  I am the only one that uses it.  There is need for it to be on my 6 year olds and wifes account.

not so open: Church Audio Cardoid mics > ST-9100 preamp > H120

Hey Mark- Thanks for the reply. I am the only user on the PC (I don't even think there's another ID registered...).  Another funny little twist, this JB3 used to transfer fine and then one day I ran into this damn problem  ??? >:(
