Stock UA-5 and Optical out to JB3 Question. HELP
« on: August 25, 2005, 06:37:39 PM »
Ok, I have my stock UA-5 USB attached to my computer. I have and analog source RCA in the back of UA-5 and optical out into the JB3. Its recording the source in computer but the optical out is not giving a signal into the JB3. The JB3 is set to optical in. Am I doing something wrong or would I not be able to get one this way without a mod of some sort?

the first (and obvious) thing is make sure the ua-5 is set to optical instead of coaxial.

second, you might wanna try going to the "Sounds and Audio Devices" function found in the Control Panel. Under the audio tab set the Sound Playback to UA-5. see if that works.

the first (and obvious) thing is make sure the ua-5 is set to optical instead of coaxial.

The optical / coax switch on the back controls input, not output.  If it's a digi-modded UA5, the coax and optical outputs are active simultaneously.  I believe the same holds true for stock UA5s.

I think you need to designate the UA5 as the playback / monitoring device in your PC software and/or soundcard config in order to route the signal from the PC back through the UA5 to the JB3.

Ok, so the stock UA-5 will not give a signal straight from the analog source even if its hooked up to the computer. It gets the signal from the USB. Sooo its

Analog source > UA-5 > USB > computer > UA-5 > Optical > JB3

Is this the way it works?

Analog source > UA-5 > USB > computer > UA-5 > Optical > JB3

Is this the way it works?

Analog source > UA5 > USB > PC > USB > UA5 > optical > JB3

Ok. When I play something back it works, but not when I'm recording. Does Sound Forge or Vegas capable with UA-5? Recording is set to UA-5.

Sorry for all the questions, I didn't get a manual with the UA-5. Thanks for all the input.   ???

Oh ya, also you can't control levels with a JB3 on optical input? Didn't get that, I thought it did.

I didn't get a manual with the UA-5.

I think there's a manual in the Archive | User Manual forum.
