Stereo Voice Recorders any good?
« on: September 03, 2005, 09:52:52 AM »
Does anyone know if the sony or olympus voice recorders with the built in stereo mics are any good for recording concerts such as this one?

I like the fact that you press record and you done. No tape or disc removals. Can anyone comment please?

Thanks,

I wouldn't use one.  I didn't even see a price but you'd be better off with a pair of squids and a mini disc or something.  Only 128mb of onboard memory, and the compression is going to be severe.  Also look at the freq response at the different compressions.  The best is only 100-17k, and the next highest is 100-8k.  Nevermind the fact that they would likely distort like crazy at concert spl's.
studio projects c4 > edirol ua-5 [digi mod] > Microtrack II

laying around: sp cmc-4, power supply and jb3

Yup. Voice recorders are good for (wait for it...) recording voices. That's it.
