Where does a guy go to get a good sturdy reliable stand that will easily support a j-disc?  Where can I get a J-disc mount also?  I have my J-disc made but no mounting bar for the darn thing!

if you are hoisting something that will make the stand really top heavy, then you need a BIG stand...which means tall.  not that you'll need the height, but it will also have a huge footprint.

they also sell counter weghts and things to keep a stand in place.
as for the J disc mount.  I think you need to be creative

Too bad I never took a metal shop class.  I'll just have to make some designs up and have my dad fabricate it for me.  I also have a friend who works at a custom cnc machine shop so anything is possible really, i just thought there was some sort of mount bar you can buy to have that professional looking thing...

I think any sort of good clamping device (for lighting) will enable you to run the J disc.
look at their offerings.  there are tons of accessories for lighting stands

I bought 2 of these on ebay. They are black,though. They came in a pair of two, and I have a 7' stand and wanted one that goes to 9'. That means I have an extra. It is brand new in the box and I will sell it for $35.00 including shipping. It is real nice and the stud on the end flips over to threaded stub. These are the specs given from the auction. It says it has two types of threads, but I had to screw an adapter on mine that made it go from big threads to small threads that fit my shock mount.

It is made with 4 sections of big diameter tubes: 38mm to 20mm. It has a 33" diameter foot print to assure stability.

The tip has 3/8" and 5/8" tip on each removable stub end and 1/4-20 and 3/8 screw for mounting photographic equipment.

Extended to: 108", retracted: 40"

i cant preach this enuf in the short time ive used the j-disc, CLAMP THE J_DISC TO YOUR OWN STAND

that way your stand acts as a counterweight and balances things out nicely

i have the huge AEA stand but i clamp to my stand everytime i tape, just easier for me i guess, but when youre rolling w/ 480's/Big AT mounts/Vert bar/J-Disc you will want some counterweight

i usually clamp about a foot below the top for some counterweight action!
