SD 722 firmware 1.74
« on: June 08, 2006, 12:32:44 AM »
Wondering if anyone here has upgraded to the new firmware for their SD-722 (1.74). I did so today before radiohead only to have a myriad of problems! my battery died 1 hr into the set (normally lasts 2.5) and now the firewire won't detect proper drivers in windows. The device shows up in my device manager, but it has a yellow ! next to it indicating that proper drivers for it cannot be found. So now I can't get the show off the rcorder. Also, any ideas why my battery may have died so quickly? Any help is always appreciated!

Guess all the recorder needed was a nights sleep! I plugged it in this morning and the pc picked it up right away. What's odd is that i had the same problem on 2 computers last night and now it's making a liar out of me on both. Oh well i'm not complaining! Radiohead here we come!!!!!! 24/96!

What type of firewire card do you have?  I had a lot of trouble w/ the cheap one I bought.  Went to the adaptec card and everything is fine.  Mac or PC?

Thanks! I really like the current tour so far...

How was the bass during "The Gloaming"? When I saw them last in 2003 (?) I could barely hear any music besides the bass ;)

I had 1.74 on my 722 for 6 shows, no problems. I heard from SD that ver. 2.0 will be out within the next few months, and will allow data to be tranfered to an external firewire HDD without a computer.

2.0 is forecasted to be out by the end of this month according to the SD forums..."barring any unforeseen roadblocks."

Edit:

What I am looking forward to is the fact that mirroring to DVD-RAM/HDD will more than likely show a full firewire revision with real firewire speeds.

That's weird. Any chance the cable was tweaked?

Does the computer see the 722 at all?  I assume you have already rebooted the computer and the 722.. Then plug the 722 into the computer?  If I don't seat the fw cable correctly I can sometimes have connection problems.  I usually don't boot with the 722 attached.

i usually turn the computer on then plug the 722 in once its booted and then power the 722 on. it connected the 1st time or two for a moment then i got some weird hardware issue message on the computer had to reboot and now it won't recognize at all. ive tried all combos of connecting it, computer on then turn 722 on and plug in 722 on then plug into to computer and boot up - all nothing. i've checked my device manager and there are no hardware conflicts, tried the add hardware wizard and nothing. i can't fucking believe this is happening right now. i've tried turning on the 722 with just battery power, just AC and both. did a hard drive repair, i'm out of options and lost my patience a while ago.

the FW cable has been attached to my computer and sits on tope of the tower, can't imagine how it would have gotten tweaked and I don't have a nother 6pin > 6pin device to test the cable out, its only a couple months old.

the last couple times i turned the 722 on there have been weird patterns on the startup screen. WTF is going on!?!?

Do you have another FW device you can test on the same cable/port? At this point, we don't have enough information to tell if it's the 722 hardware, 722 software, the cable, the FW card, other computer hardware, or computer software. Try to eliminate a few of these so we can help you a little better.

Edit: I wouldn't go doing a firmware install on a machine whose data you want to keep intact.

Get ready....

Quote
Since our FireWire "stack" is all new in the upcoming 2.0 release (with a complete rewrite of the 40,000+ lines of C code just for FireWire...), we will be getting to 2.0 in a couple of steps.

We will first be posting a new 1.XX beta release which will include the new FireWire code withOUT host mode. This will essentially give you the identical functionality of the present 1.74 release with the added benefit of both CF and HD access (722 aand 744T), plus a healthy speed increase. We will open this release up to any user that wants to try it. We are quite confident in it, but it won't be an "official" release. We'll also keep the present 1.74 release available. We believe this will eliminate the lingering connectivity issues we are seeing in Win OS. I won't quote a specific date on this first step to 2.0, but it will be very soon.

As far as the 2.0 release, we are heavily testing this code to assure its completeness and stability. The 2.0 release includes the control for the CL-1 remote control. We have CL-1's built and ready to go, but they ultimately depend on this release for their operation. We will also first publish the 2.0 as a public beta for the brave to wring out. We have lots of very knowledgeable users here that can identify things we simply didn't consider. We'll make certain to let you all know when these releases are available.

If you have registered your recorder, you will receive an email when new firmware releases are available. If you don't think you have registered, go to our site and drop us your serial number and contact information - http://www.sounddevices.com/register

AWESOME 8) whered you get that info at martin?

so firewire speeds will be increased on the beta mirroring the 1.74 release? thats killer as well :)

i have no need for the HD mirroring cause 40GB is plenty of storage for me at the moment :) but it is a sweet feature
