As mentioned on the posted referenced site these 'holophonic' recordings are binaural in nature requiring headphones to fully appreciate.

Holophonic and in-ear recorded binaural are a type of HRTF (head-related-transfer-function) audio where Holophonic and in-ear binaural recording are just two types of HRTF meant mostly for headphone playback with other HRTF types of recordings (just as realistic) playable on both headphones AND speakers with mostly equal compatibility.

One such type equally good for phones/speaker playback uses my company's DSM(tm) HRTF headworn/or LiteGUY dummy head baffled microphone systems.

Many sites feature speaker/headphones compatible HRTF audio.  Hundreds/thousands of (a mix of) conventional mic'd and HRTF types of free recordings can be auditioned on the sites listed below.

www.sonicstudios.com/mp3.htm (http://www.sonicstudios.com/mp3.htm)
www.sonicstudios.com/mp3_2slp.htm (http://www.sonicstudios.com/mp3_2slp.htm)  (all HRTF speaker/headphone compatible)

And here is a project site with all types of recordings both conventional and unusual that many should find interesting:

A selection of my own binaural recordings is available online under:

There's also an .rtf file with descriptions of the various recordings.

Enjoy.
