« on: April 05, 2008, 05:55:45 PM »
looking to see how many folks still use these venerable old mics. i have the parts here to eliminate the K3U and allow you to run caps directly into a deck or pre...

The K3U is still a good mic.. Discontinued in the late '80's/ early 90's (I forget which) when mercury batteries became illegal and replaced with the K6.

But - the K3 *can* be phantom powered without putting batteries in the K3 and newer non-mercury batteries are now available that fit the K3.

A good mic. and still good for a few years yet.

yup, i have made _many_ excellent recordings with mine. in fact i purchased the last K3U circuit board in SennUSA inventory. Dwight then told me that senn no longer will support the K3U series. but i am sure you can get caps built as they still have parts...

but to be more clear, what i am offering is the ability to run the ME20-ME88's w/o the body (K3U or N or K2U or N)

Interesting.
Would similar techniques apply to K6?

I am here!!

Just picked up a pair of K3U/ME-40s for $99.98 on ebay. I only needed the capsules but at that price I'll take it all >:D

Can't wait to try them out.

Rarely run the ME-80s anymore - about three years since the last time - sweet midrange on them if I remember correctly....

The K3 bsides of being a powering module it also has a preamp,
I can run any sennh. capsule without the K3 but it will not sound as good as with it.

^ I've heard some excellent sounding sources from a set Neil made up for a mutual friend who runs them for audio with a video rig.

Wow, that must've been a big hat!!  Sold off my ME-80's years ago, but I can't even begin to imagine how I would get those in a hat, the ME-40's, I can see....

I loved my ME-80's back in the ole GD taper section.  leaps and bounds beyond the sound of the NAK's

And you upped just this past week a bunch of those ME80 recordings in the Kickdown.  Those 90 GD shows sound sweet!  Nice job.    :coolguy:
