I agree, if the source of origin is crap, e.g, the vocalist sucks, no matter what mic you use the recording will suck, too. Crap in----------mic------------Crap out!

I've made some fine recordings using Oktava MC-012 Microphones. The noise floor on those mics is amazingly low. The newer MK-012 models I can't vouch for. I wouldn't slam a manufacturer just because they are in Russia or now in China. I have a good number of Neumann microphones and they are worth every penny, but there are hundreds of other options that can fit a source material just as good. The trick is knowing your mic locker through years of experience and choosing the right tool for the job, and most engineers will not agree on the same tool ;).

Agreed. BTW, the 319's and their variants, along with the ribbons and other mics are still made in Russia. Also, you can still get the Russian 12's, too.
