I've got a NEC-1300A inside a generic firewire chasis.  I've used Nero to burn the dvds, haven't had any problems.

nec 1300a - got it for $113 does 4x dual format

nec has an 8x out now for roughly the same price, if not cheaper, also does dual format.  www.pricegrabber.com

i've had nothing but success.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

What about software....I'm looking for something that will copy DVD's.  I've seen DVD Xcopy gold, but it's $100 (and my cracked code didn't work...not that I would have used the software if it did....).
If simply copying the DVD will not work, how are you guys ripping the DVD's?

DVD Decryptor is really easy to use and is quite robust.

http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

i use DD to rip the DVD and Nero 6 Ultra (Ver 6.3.0.2) to burn the DVD.  extremely easy and haven't made a coaster yet.

my burner is a Sony DW-U14A 4X +/-
