Shockmount for Cameras?

(1/1)

RyanJ:
I have been filming a bit more for bands when I get a photo pass. I usually try to set up two cameras on stage, or at the lip. I am finding out that my cameras (Canon G70) really vibrate hard on their small tripods and the shots are unusable for most of the show. Unless they are quick shots.

I have been looking at the normal stores, but to no avail so I ask here. Anyone have any recommendations for shock mounts for cameras/camcorders? Or maybe a decent/small profile tripod that will help dampen extreme vibrations?

I may also have to turn on the image stabilization. I don't believe I have had them on in the settings for a few shows.

Thanks for any of the advice!

goodcooker:

A videographer I know uses sorbothane pads under his tripod legs when he's on stage doing a static shot.

You need a heavy rig on a heavy tripod with like goodcooker said "pads" underneath the legs.....i use memory foam and that absolutely works with a heavy rig on top.

CCD cameras were not  really affected to much by vibration because they were global shutter  but all these CMOS sensor with rolling shutter are the main culprit.

Or have some helpers all hand holding the cameras or on a monopod with memory foam under the bottom if standing on stage.

Good luck

Sweet! Thanks guys!

How about adding like a 10lb sandbag on the base of the legs?

I usually hang some weight in a bag from the center column of the tripod but you still need the memory foam underneath the legs. The weight helps mostly by forcing the tripod into the memory foam.If there is no weight the tripod will fall over as the memory foam needs to be several inches thick.

Trust me this works .

Also a decent tripod is really needed for video work.

I don't know what your using but i recommend Manfrotto with a fluid video head.

i'll find some links of what i'm suggesting here shortly.

This is the tripod we use,we have several......this is what you want.

That is without the fluid head. We use the Manfrotto 501 HDV heads.

I see on Ebay several of these paired together for reasonable prices ....i'll add some ebay links here.
