I understand I can connect my external HD to my 722 via the firewire connection....For portability is it possible to get a memory stick that can be connected to the firewire port of the 722? I know memory sticks all use USB but is there an adapter I can use so that I can convert fireware to USB and use a memory stick?
Thanks!

Simon - why not just use a CF card in the CF card slot, in addition (or instead of) the internal HD?

It's actually for the artists I record for...they usually have a USB memory stick...some of them don't have CF readers or use CF cards. So if there is an option for them to bring their memory stick along with them during a session that will save a lot of time editing (tracking) and burning the CD for them post session. It for them to check their performance straight after their concert.

Sony makes an adapter that lets you insert a Memory Stick Duo
into a Compactflash slot. It's called the AD-MSCF1. Sony's web site
has information here:

most likely a firewire to usb adapter would require a driver when connected to a PC so i doubt it would be plug and play w/ the 722.
CF and Firewire external are the only plug and play methods I have verified.
