Archos 605 wifi
« on: February 11, 2009, 04:38:28 PM »
The specs say it has the ability to record in WAV.  Does anyone use this machine?  I was thinking of buying one instead of an Ipod Classic, and if it can be used for taping, that would seal the deal.

My understanding is that you'd need to pick up some dock-type accessory, where the audio input jacks (line in RCA) are located. Either the DVR station or the DVR Travel Adapter.

Archos' documentation really suck.
I tried to find out more, but no mention of:
1. Highest bit rate and sample frequency?
2. When using the DVR Station Gen 5 or DVR Travel Adapter, do both need AC power, or can they be powered by the internal battery of the Archos 605?
3. Which types of audio inputs are supported by DVR Station Gen 5/ DVR Travel Adapter respectively: only line in over RCA, or SPDIF in and possibly mic in?
4. Does the audio input provide any plug-in power for the mic? Doubt it...

Looking at the recording screen, it's crude at best.

That said, a refurbed 605 can be picked up on ebay for $116, so it's cheap enough to experiment with. Don't expect stellar quality though!  ;D

Note that this model has been superseeded by Archos 5/Archos 7, which should have the same recording capabilities, but different footprint.
