Title: Naiant Littlebox power supply issues (Mshilarious)
Post by: Chimney Top on April 01, 2011, 05:15:28 PM
Hey Mshilarious, (no pm's?)

I recently purchased a used littlebox that has the 9volt sled converted to a 9 volt outlet.  You posted recently that any power supply 5V to 12? V will work.  I have not been able to get my brand new Lenmar DVD battery (9V) to work with the littlebox.  It is possible I need to find an adapter conversion tip that is the exact fit on both ends.

Do you know anything i could try?

Thanks

Why would anyone want to mod it that way ??? I just don't understand why most tapers don't just get the 4xAA Battery Sled option[unless you're a stealth tapir] ?!?! The AA option powers the LB for around 10 hrs w/ 2300mah Energizer AA's, and can EASILY be charged/replaced, where as dealing w/ 9v batteries gets expensive, and IMO, have proven unreliable over the years?!?!?!?!

Single 9V = smaller case than 4xAA
Dual 9V = hot swappable batteries, which can be handy for mcs with high phantom current draw

If you were using it for stealth (which frankly, would be somewhat tough if a door search was involved) you'd probably want the internal rechargeable... An external batt would make things worse for you...

Mine has the single 9v and that works fine for my purposes, but knowing what I know now, I'd spring for the internal in a heartbeat.

Another option would be internal 9volt with a DIN connection to be able to use RC style 7.2volt batteries.

thats what i have
it gives me the smaller box yet allows for long runtimes

mine's got dual (2) Li-Ion internal batteries - in my unscientific tests I could run my Milab  VM44 - links for about 28 hours at 48v Phantom.

Thats a long time. I need to run batt runtimes w/ 4xAA 2300mah batts, at the +20v setting. I can get 10hrs w/ 4x2300mah AA's, so I'm betting I could get at least 15-18 hrs

Anybody using a Tekkeon with the littlebox yet?

I guess that's what makes the LB great -- user configurable so anyone can get what they want.  Personally, I don't understand why anyone gets it with 9v, dual 9v, or AA's -- internal li-ion is the way to go!  ;D

The internal li-ion gives 12-14 hours of runtime at 48v phantom, or 25+ hours at the 20v phantom setting.  Then it can be re-charged in something like an hour, or maybe and hour and a half.  Even if I'm running at a festival, I don't record more than 14 hours a day and I can recharge at night.  Or for me with Milabs that take 12-48v phantom and Beyer mc950s that can take 12-48v phantom, I can run for 25+ hours before needing a recharge.

It's all in your preferences and what you want out of your gear.  Internal, rechargable, 12+ hours of runtime and potentially 25 hours, and the smallest case possible -- that's what I need.

I like those options, and believe me I toyed with the idea of the Li-ion,but I already have a few Tekkeons which I would like to continue to use. This option for me, would yield almost the same results as having the internal rechargeable, especially if the lower power setting is used.

Nonetheless, I can't wait until Mr.Postman leaves me a nice gift from Naiant!

i got the 9v tray with din3
for me that was the best option
i am not big on recharge batteries as i had bad luck in the past
it is cheaper then the li-ion (since i already owned rc batteries)
gives me longgggg runtimes off the rc if i need/want yet allows for plenty of runtime to cover a "normal" show off the 9v
allows me to have a "back up" battery in worst case situation

This is exactly my config and pretty much exactly my logic as well.  RC batteries are plentiful and cheap taboot, so you're not in a situation where you're limited if the internal gives you any problems.  If an RC takes a crap, throw it away and grab another!
