TLs-> V2->ua-5->jb3??
« on: May 30, 2004, 12:44:21 PM »
Picking up Mokes V2 and am wondering if anyone has any experience/comments on using the ua-5 as just an a/d.  Would I be better off with an sbm-1??  I kinda like the idea of haveing 2 different sounding pres at my disposal.

Thanks for the input!!

I used the UA-5 after my V2 and thought the detail was awesome! Better than my V3 but I did not like the bass response. I believe it was because of my mic configuration. I use a Sanken CMS-2 stereo mic and record M/S. I never compared it to a SBM-1. But did compare to my V3. I've heard others really like this setup with great results.

ive run both of the rigs your thinking about brian, v2>ua5 and v2>mod sbm1, the v2>ua5 combo wasnt bad, i had a stock ua5 so the sound on the bottom end wasnt very prominent, but it sounded decent, but the v2 mod sbm1 combo would be the ticket i think for you brian, very solid and small footprint rig and the sound quality is phenomenal
Current Rig:
Mics: Neumann SKM184, Neumann SKM185, AKG C414 XLS/ST, DPA ST2015
Recorder: SD MixPre-6ii, SD MixPre-10ii
Extras: SD MixPre-D, SD USBPre2, Sony TCD-D8
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Former Rigs:
ADK TL --> Segue Dogstars --> SD 722
AT4051a --> Segue Dogstars --> MP-2 --> SD 722
AT4051a --> V2 --> MiniMe --> VxPocket V2 --> Laptop
AT4051a --> V2 --> MiniMe --> Sony TCD-D100
AT4051a --> V2 --> Mod SBM-1 --> Sony TCD-D100
AT4051a --> MP-2 --> AD1000 --> Sony TCD-D100
AKGC1000s --> Denecke PS/2 --> Denecke AD-20 --> Sony MiniDisc

Having a stock UA5 wouldn't make any differenxe if you're just running it as an a/d.

Bri we might be able to compare them at Great Woods....I think a mod-SBM may be available, and I think the V2 has 2 sets of outputs.....

the V2 has xlr and rca outs.

while doing comps, anyone want to do a stock sbm vs mod(24bit) sbm comp?
been debating on eventually sending my sbm to oade...or selling v2/sbm and getting a v3
