UA-5 and 7.2v Battery
« on: May 24, 2004, 09:53:37 PM »
Think it was Fozzy that was running it, but I remember reading that the regulator in the UA-5 took 8v-38v?

Anyone else running 7.2v batt on their ua-5?

i've only run 9-12v to the ua-5.  i don't think it would work off 7.2, i could leave my battery on, and see how low it goes checking the voltage.  if i have time i'll do that tomarrow. peace.

I believe there is a thread in the archive that explains the voltage re(8-12 i think).  I run on 9.6 cause that was what was reccomended and readily available.  The current draw with phantom power is 450 mA.

It may work for a little bit since a fully charged 7.2V would be over 8V...but as it starts to discharge not sure if it would work once it gets under the 8V mark.

Found the thread, it was hiding in the 12v ua5 thread

So the big question is does the phantom work at 7.2v?

I would think that running it at the lower voltage would be better as the regulator wouldn't have to generate any heat regulating the voltage down...

Just saw this but yea i was running mc012's > UA5 > jb3.  Should have my 481's in a few days so i will be doing some more testing.

Phantom power is on.  i can run up to 3 7.2v packs at a time with my current power cable hack and hot swap them at will.  I have 4 new 3400mAH packs and 3 1500 packs that are thrashed.  I have got 6+ on the old packs and 20+ on 3 of the new packs.   I also use Dean's plugs instead of the standard RC pack plugs.

I also have a 4pin cable for any situation that requires a SLA that i have never used in the field.

let me know if you want some better pics

monitor is a SVU-1 running line out on the UA-5.  Right angle mini optical on the left.  Y cables splitting the Line out cable to an additional set of RCA's outs for patchers.

Team SVU-x all the way, baby!
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."

4hrs and going w/ the 481's on a single 3200mah 7.2v.  I am concluding that 7.2v works w/ my new config as well.

I'm running a test now on a 1500mah 7.2v RC batt I had lying around... I wanna be able to power the UA-5 for single band nights with something more portable than a 12v.... we'll see how long that can last... 1 hour so far with no problems and the optical is still powered and workin' fine.

I think i was getting b/w 1-2 hrs on an old and busted 1500, ~6 on the three pictured above.  I now run 4 3400 or 3200 ( i forget) 7.2 volt batts.  FWIW the batteries have always been peak charged.

Yup, it stopped at about 75 mins.... that's no good. I'll try charging for twice the amount of time.. I don't really care if I fuck up the battery.. it's old news.
