Deck w/XLR Mic Inputs Search
« on: February 10, 2017, 08:25:29 PM »
I had a Fostex FR2-LE and am looking for a smaller footprint for a deck with XLR in. 2-track is fine. Would rarely use 4-track.

Decks worth looking at?
Tascam DR-40
Tascam DR-44WL
Tascam DR-100
Zoom H4N Pro
Zoom H5
Zoom H6
Marantz PMD-561
Marantz PMD-661
Roland R-26

I do have a Sony M10 and D50 already. If there is a solution with those that makes sense with either of those, I'd be interested. TIA.

Check out the Naiant PFA or IPA for the smallest footprint that will utilize your existing recorders. Here are a few photos of how folks are using it:

Mind Blown!

Would I be able to run Busman caps  > cables > IPA > mini to mini cable > M10?

^ This will be worth investigating versus buying yet another deck. I'll be in touch with Jon.

You said you're looking for XLR inputs.  If that means you want 48V phantom to your mics, it looks like that isn't possible with the IPA.  See Jon's posts #75 and #77 here:

That was before the IPA was suggested. Thank you for posting the threads. Really reading up on this product. I'd be happy to ditch my mic bodies.
