Turn around time AKGusa repairs
« on: April 13, 2006, 01:16:19 PM »
I have to send in one of my 480 bodies because of a loose XLR connection.  I get a buzzing sound sometimes.  A little wiggle shakes it free.  I swapped channels and I confirmed its the same mic body.

What's the turn around time with AKGusa?  Does anyone recommend someone else?  Cheaper?

is this the common problem where a screw in the body needs to be re-tightened? i seem to recall Bean saying it happened to him. also, fwiw, i dont think the turnaround is terrribly long for minor fixes. depends on how close to nashville you are.

I'm in Syracuse, so 3 days should be sufficient.

I talked to AKG about that screw one time and the repair guy said there is a small spring around that screw. When people get the buzzing sound it's often because the spring has become lost or something. Anyway, according to him tightening the screw is only a temp fix and the spring needs to be replaced. Good luck and let us know what you find out please. +T

Thanks John.   :)  I'm waiting to hear back from Mark Zucha from AKGusa.  I made initial contact with him and he sent me the repair/shipping instructions.  I'm waiting for his reply on whether he needs me to send in capsules with them or not.

+T backatcha.

According to their instructions: inside a business week.

Shoot TNJazz a pm.  He lives near AKG Tenn, and has taken some things in for service.  I'm sure he has some info on turnaround times.

when I sent my actives in for repair, 4 days after i mailed it they called me and said it was done.  Estimating 2-3 days shipping from buffalo to nashville, same day service.

Very good service from these folks.

I've sent stuff to AKG and get it back right away, too. Personal , caring service. Not a pile of things down there where you are another job to do out of 500 waiting.

I can confirm this. When I had to send them my 414s, I got them back within 4 or 5 days. (Davis, CA > Nashville and back) It was a very minor repair though. Just a broken wire or something.

Dan.  If there's a show coming up and you're without mics, you can use mine.  Just let me know.  Is this the same buzzing I noticed on your grace potter set?

Yup.  I sent them out yesterday.  Should be down to them by Monday.  I'll update this post on the service.

Dan, thanks for the offer.  +T  I have nothing scheduled until Mule-Buffalo 4/27.  So I have time.

Mics are done!  They fixed the defected spring/screw on the body.  Checked both mics and gave them a clean bill of health.  $85.00 shipped.  I'll have them by Friday afternoon.  Wahoo!!!   ;D

What were the two pairs of actives that were shipped to AKG and for what reasons? Do they replace the cables? My MK46 cables are a little stiff. Thanks.

I think their cables were the blue lines, but I might be mistaken.  AKG will not service the MK46 any longer.

Very reluctantly though.  It's almost like they disavow all knowledge of these things.  Most of the folks over there have never seen the CKx series at all.

The only thing they will do on the MK46 is resolder a bad connection per my conversation with them.  They do not have any more of the cable to replace bad cables.
